Ex German and Aston Villa footballer, Thomas Hitzlsperger, comes out as gay

31year former Aston Villa, Everton, West Ham & German midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger has come out as gay. But he waited to retire from football before revealing his sexual preference.
Hiztlsperger, who retired 4 months ago due to knee injury, told Die Zeit (a German newspaper) that he wants “to bring forward the discussion about homosexuality among professionals.”
Commenting on his disclosure, he explained that he felt it was the right time to open up, after he had retired from the game.
However, the former player confessed that it had been a “long and difficult process” when it dawned to him that he was homosexual.
“Only in the last couple of years have I come to realise that I would prefer to live with a man,” he said. “I have never felt ashamed for what I am.”
